Matt Coffman

Communications Director / Discipleship Coordinator

I was born in Nebraska, where I spent the first 18 years of my life. After high school, I moved to Colorado to attend art college and lived in Denver for 20 years, where I ran a branding and marketing company.

I met my lovely wife, a traveling nurse from Connecticut, in 2002 in Denver. Years later, I was saved on the mission field in Thailand, and my wife was saved soon thereafter. We moved to Oahu in 2008, where we welcomed our first son, Finley. Since then, God has done significant healing work in our marriage and has blessed us with five beautiful, highly creative children.

I serve as the Communications Director, helping promote events and ministries at the Kaka’ako and Windward campuses, and occasionally with the Waikiki Beach Chaplaincy. I also facilitate the Freedom in Christ Course, One Love’s 24-week discipleship program.

I love the story of the Prodigal Son and Jesus’ missional words in Luke 4, when He says, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” (Luke 4:18–19)

I am an advocate of the importance of both the cross and the cave — meaning that Jesus didn’t only come to pay the penalty for our sins, but also to give us new life in Him!
