09 Feb Life Groups
In a large church like ours, it can be easy just to come and go and get lost in the crowd. This is why Life Groups are an essential part of our church–providing a small group setting where people can be in fellowship, live life together, grow spiritually, and build community.
We are currently planning an exciting new direction for Life Groups to be announced before the end of the year. If you are interested in being part of a Life Group, leading or hosting one, or just want more information please fill out the form below.
We appreciate your interest and will keep you updated on the progress.
WHAT IS A LIFE GROUP?
Most of our Life Groups are made up of 6-10 people who want to grow spiritually as they connect with people who are going through a similar season in life. Our groups nourish an environment that facilitate friendship, encourage discussion, allows connection through prayer and motivate service throughout the community.
WHY SHOULD I JOIN A LIFE GROUP?
Here are three reasons to join: First, you will make new friends and connect to a smaller community rather than just being a face in the crowd. Second, you will grow spiritually and in a Christ-like manner and finally, you get the opportunity to engage with others on their spiritual journey as you share and encourage other in their faith.
HOW OFTEN DOES A LIFE GROUP MEET?
Most of our groups meet weekly, and they meet on a specific day and time (i.e Tuesdays from 7-9PM). Second-mile groups meet weekly all year round.
WHAT HAPPENS AT A LIFE GROUP MEETING?
Every group is different, but there are a few common threads. Groups are encouraged to have fellowship time either in the beginning or the end, as this gives participants time to connect with each other and develop their friendships. Discussion and prayer are the backbone of Life Group’s, and the topic of the study is something relevant to the members of the group. The study selected can be a topical book such as Love & Respect, a book of the Bible or a Second Mile, which follows the current One Love Sermon through the outline and notes of Pastor Waxer.
HOW LONG DOES A TYPICAL LIFE GROUP STAY TOGETHER?
Our groups meet for a period anywhere between 8-12 weeks. Each period is known as a semester and we have 3 of these per year. Second Mile groups meet all year round. Taking a month off between semesters allows leaders and participants time to re-evaluate their needs and seek direction from the Lord as to where to go next within Life Groups. You can join a Life Group for as little as one semester then change to a new group, or you can stay with the same group as long as you like.
WHERE DO LIFE GROUPS MEET?
Most of our Life Groups meet in homes. A few meet in Koinonia Hale and others meet at coffee shops.
IS CHILDCARE PROVIDED?
Every group handles all babysitting needs in its own way. Some of the groups make previous arrangement with a babysitter or two, and the parents share the hourly cost. Some groups are kid friendly, and others ask each participant to make their own arrangements. Before the beginning of the study participants will know if children are welcomed to the group or babysitting is to be arranged.
HOW DO I JOIN A GROUP?
Personally, sign up for a group during our Life group launch week at our information tables or by directly emailing the facilitator.
CAN I START MY OWN GROUP?
